Wait, Why Does the Royal Family Wait So Long to Share the New Baby's Name?
  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are officially parents!!! The palace announced this morning that they welcomed a boy in the early hours.
  • In that announcement, though, the family didn't mention the baby's name. Here's why.

Hey! Don't know if you heard, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry birthed a royal baby boy today. Weirdly, the world at large has no idea what this little nug is going to be called. If you're wondering why the heck that is, you've come to the right place.

Traditionally, the royal family waits a few days to share the new baby's name with the world. Why? Royal expert Victoria Arbiter told Town & Country what the deal was.

"The reasoning is perhaps twofold. On one hand, there's a desire to inform the families before a public declaration is made and any new parent appreciates having a little private time to get to know their new addition before the onslaught of announcements," she said.

Okay, yes, that makes sense. If you're in the position to have to share your kiddo with the entire world, it'd be nice to have a few days where you keep one little thing a secret. But also, picking the royal baby name is, like, a lot of pressure.

"Royals, however, also have to consider the great responsibility in naming a new member of the family and I expect they want to be a hundred percent certain of their choice before announcing the name and sealing the baby's place in history."
