Kriti Sanon on her upcoming films with Shahid Kapoor, Bebo, and Tabu, and being a successful entrepreneur

It’s been a slow, but steady rise to the top for Kriti Sanon. One that currently sees her enjoy this new phase of success where she, one of the top female actors in the country, is now a National Award winner, as well as a woman entrepreneur who is enjoying this new journey.

The actor, in an exclusive interview with Cosmopolitan India, talks about stepping into the world of entrepreneurship, what some of her standout performances have taught her, completing a decade in the industry, and much more.

Cosmopolitan India: Take us through your journey as an entrepreneur

Kriti Sanon: My journey as an entrepreneur has been a fascinating odyssey of self-discovery and creative exploration. Hyphen, my skincare brand, is a testament to my belief in the power of balance, symbolizing the fusion of science and nature—much like the hyphen itself. In the long run, we want Hyphen to go global and be recognized for its credibility, standing strong independently of my name. 'The Tribe' is a movement inspiring individuals to embrace their best selves. And Blue Butterfly Films is my venture into storytelling, aiming to bring narratives that resonate with the human spirit.

CI: What’s Kriti Sanon’s advice to budding women entrepreneurs?

KS: The balance is in finding the equilibrium between passion and perseverance. Believe in your vision, stay resilient, and embrace the unique journey you're on. Surround yourself with a supportive tribe, and let this connection guide you to endless possibilities. Remember to keep shifting gears as and when required, and most importantly, don't give up.

CI: Take us through your fitness and skincare routine. How do they help you stay fit and beautiful from within?

KS: Exercise and skincare are fundamental components of my daily routine. Consistent workouts not only maintain my physical fitness but also enhance my inner radiance.

CI: Do you have a beauty mantra that you swear by?

KS: Absolutely! My beauty mantra is a fundamental one: never skip sunscreen. I firmly believe that consistent sun protection is essential, considering our skin is exposed to various elements, be it the sun's rays or indoor lighting. Wearing sunscreen regularly is a non-negotiable for me, ensuring that my skin remains healthy and well-protected.

CI: What's your personal style like?

KS: My style is a reflection of my mood, ranging from chic and contemporary to comfortable and laid-back. The adaptability here is about expressing oneself freely through fashion. Whether it's a red carpet event or a casual outing, my style mirrors the diverse facets of my personality.

When selecting an outfit, I consider the occasion, my mood, and the comfort factor. This process is about finding that perfect equilibrium between style and substance and staying true to who I am.

CI: Your debut film Heropanti was a big hit, working with SRK in Dilwale, Bareilly Ki Barfi was a turning point, and Mimi earned you a National Award. What have each of these films taught you?

KS: Every film teaches a lot, and for me, I’ve learned everything on the job. I was very raw during the shoot of Heropanti and didn’t even know the basics of a mark and camera facing. I remember being fascinated with the various departments of filmmaking. I’m a thinker and a learner. I started figuring out my process and craft during that film. Dilwale was a huge opportunity for me, as it gave me a massive audience reach. Being in the same frame as Shah Rukh Sir and Kajol Ma’am, being directed by Rohit Sir, I was a baby on set, learning from everyone around. Bareilly Ki Barfi was another milestone in my career that woke people to the performer in me. Before that, people felt I wouldn’t fit in a small, de-glam world. People started looking at me more as an actor after Bareilly Ki Barfi.

Mimi has given and taught me a lot! It was a film that was on my shoulders and gave me a character with such a beautiful graph and so much to portray as an actor. I opened up as an actor and felt a certain confidence and excitement on set, which I hadn’t felt before. I was just flowing and was completely uninhibited, willing to give it all, emotionally and physically.

CI: Close to completing 10 years in the industry, what have been the major lessons and takeaways?

KS: The last decade has been a whirlwind of lessons, growth, and gratitude. My journey signifies adaptability and resilience. I've learned the importance of staying true to oneself, embracing challenges, and cherishing the relationships built along the way.

CI: What’s the one thing that you’re waiting to do next? Tell us about what your fans can expect in 2024 and beyond?

KS: I’m currently shooting for Do Patti. We are done with 65% of the film and it's been a great journey so far. Next year will start with the Valentine’s Day release of the Maddock film with Shahid, and then The Crew with Bebo (Kareena Kapoor) and Tabu Ma’am. Lots to look forward to!
