Charli XCX seemingly shades Hailey Bieber's 'nepo baby' fashion statement

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll have heard the term 'nepo baby' being thrown about increasingly over the last few weeks. For those not in the know, a nepo baby — short for nepotism baby — is the child of a celebrity or industry insider who has likely benefitted from their parents' fame or connections when launching their own career. Some of the most talked about nepo babies du jour include Emily in Paris star Lily Collins, Maya Hawke, Jaden Smith and Hailey Bieber— the latter making headlines this week over her acknowledgement at being a nepo baby.

But, Hailey's nepo baby T-shirt hasn't gone down well with everyone — although it has birthed a heck of a lot of internet memes—and some people think fellow celeb Charli XCX just shaded her for it. "I respect the nepo baby T-shirt attempt," she said yesterday in a tweet that has since been viewed almost five million times, with a lot of people highlighting her use of the word "attempt".

"Hooting n hollering at Charli being as messy as us," one person tweeted in response, as someone else said: "Keyword attempt." A third person chimed into the conversation with, "Exactly what u said… ATTEMPT!"

Others compared Hailey's fashion statement to one of Charli XCX's own T-shirt moments. "Some people just don’t have that IT factor, y’know?" one fan tweeted, alongside a photo of the singer wearing a top that reads: "They don't build statues of critics."
