5 home-grown active wear brands we’re obsessed with

Working out is not always easy—first you have to find the motivation, then muster up enough energy (especially if you’re exercising after a long day), and then figure out something comfortable to wear, which can be a task in itself. The ideal activewear lets you move with ease, fits your body like a glove yet is breathable, and, most importantly, makes you feel good about yourself.

One would think these are not lofty asks, but very few performance wear labels fit the bill. Most times, we are left with ill-fitting leggings, sports bras that are a pain to put on and take off, and outfits that are not made for bigger bodies.

But thankfully, there is a new crop of Indian activewear labels that is crafting workout clothes that address these exact pain points. Below, we list some of our favourites.

BlissClub

Bliss Club

Founded by Minu Margeret, BlissClub is a women-led activewear brand that is all about putting the community first. One of the most popular brands from the list, they are known for their revolutionary leggings that solve all the issues one usually has with tights—the waistband doesn’t roll down while you’re doing crunches, there is no awkward camel toe (you know what we’re talking about!), and they fit snugly—there are no unwanted creases or bunching up at the bottom. The brand offers sizes from XS to XXXXL, in 10 bold, solid colours.

Silvertraq

Slivertraq

This Mumbai-based brand founded in 2016 by Dhriti Badani wants to make active wear playful. This is evident in their signature collections that go beyond the usual solid colours seen in workout wear. If likes wearing matching bra and legging sets to the gym, you’ll love Silvertraq’s co-ord sets that come in fun prints like tie-dye, acid wash, geometrical patterns, and more. The brand is plus size-friendly to boot, with sizes ranging from XS to 4XL.

Pace Active

Pace Active

If you’re on the lookout for active wear that doubles up as street wear, and pieces that you can wear from the gym to a brunch with your girlfriends with ease, then Pace Active’s transitional, timeless collection should be in your wardrobe. Their bottoms and tops are as much as functional as they are fashionable—choose from corseted sports bras, oversized shirts, dual tone leggings, pants with front slits, and more. We love multi-tasking outfits!

Aastey

Aastey

Born during the pandemic in 2020 by Jeevika Tyagi and Kanupriya, Aastey is a home-grown brand whose mission is to create active wear that caters to all body types. Their form-fitting and comfortable leggings are a bestseller, and their soft, over-sized t-shirts are just as popular. The brand offers a wide range of sizes, with the bust size for their bras running up to 48G. Plus, they are committed to performance wear that is environmentally conscious. We approve

Spirit Animal

Spirit Animal

Launched in 2018, Spirit Animal is another activewear brand that is all about size inclusivity. It should be your go-to brand if you’re struggling to find workout wear that is available in a range of sizes without compromising on style. From classic flared pants, polo dresses, sports bras, to cargo pants and skorts, you’ll be spoilt for choice! Their signature sports bra comes with removal pads keeping your comfort in mind.
