Art is alive and well with Snowball Studios

A gallery where art is immersive, dynamic, and a ‘pilgrimage’.

Art is alive and well with Snowball Studios

Snowball Studios in South Mumbai is more than just an art gallery—it is a whole experience. The space isn’t just about exhibiting prolific works, it’s also a living and breathing dialogue with creativity. Here, your ordinary day will turn into an immersive journey.

In a short time, Snowball Studios has created a niche for itself in the space of Immersive Art. At the Art Mumbai fair this November, the gallery presented Vichitra, a live immersive art exhibit by artist Tejal Patni.

Vichitra was met with an astonishing response, attracting an audience of around 800 people witnessing the show daily. The gallery also presented legendary artist Bhupal Ramnathkar’s sculpture as an exhibit at the fair.

Snowball Studios showcases the works of an array of artists—both contemporary and traditional. From collaborations with global giants to deeply personal exhibitions, each show is thoughtfully curated to immerse visitors in contrasts, dialogues, and nuances that challenge and expand what art is. Take for instance the Mul Mathi collaboration with the Chanakya School of Arts—Snowball Studios showcased 22 embroidered artworks that were created by artists Manu and Madhvi Parekh for Dior’s Paris 2022 runway. Or Paresh Maity’s Infinite Light, a 40-day retrospective show canvassing his 30 years of work. This studio also champions artists through transformative milestones, like the Reflections exhibit that marked artist Bhupal Ramnathkar’s shift from advertising to fine art photography. In November this year, the gallery hosted a presentation by the celebrated Sri Lankan artist Senaka Senanayake, whose vibrant and culturally rich work was also showcased by London’s Grosvenor Gallery and Mumbai’s Patrimonio Gallery.

For founder and managing director Raman Chauhan, Snowball Studios is the realisation of a vision born in the serene mountains of Shimla. “Growing up in the beautiful mountains inspired me to search for the ‘art’ in things. Art, I believe, is in every aspect of our lives,” he shares. He started out in Mumbai’s advertising world, where he worked as a model before moving into creative production. But he knew his vision extended beyond films—art always captivated him. “Collecting art became a passion for me ever since I laid eyes on the works of artist Francis Newton Souza. This broadened my vision and I began collecting the works of some of India’s most renowned artists. Snowball Studios is the result of my art expedition.”
