Here’s everything you need to know about the 2025 Emmy Award nominations

The 77th Emmy nominations are in, and the race to crown the best in television has officially begun. Apple TV+’s Severance leads the way with a resounding 27 nods. The psychological workplace thriller, which follows employees who have surgically divided their work and personal memories, has captured both critical acclaim and audience obsession with its unnerving exploration of identity and control. Close behind is HBO’s The Penguin with 24 nominations, while Apple’s Hollywood satire The Studio and HBO’s lush holiday thriller The White Lotus have each earned 23 nominations each. Another standout is Netflix’s coming-of-age drama Adolescence, picking up 13 nominations, including a supporting actor nod for 15-year-old Owen Cooper, whose performance as a teen entangled in a murder investigation has been hailed as one of the year’s most compelling turns. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 14 at 8 pm ET on CBS and stream on Paramount+.

But while some shows soared, others stumbled. Once award-season staples, The Handmaid’s Tale and Netflix’s global phenomenon Squid Game failed to secure a single Best Drama nomination this year, with the latter being completely shut out despite its record-breaking viewership. Say Nothing managed only one writing nod, overlooking powerful performances by Lola Petticrew and Anthony Boyle, while The White Lotus missed a nomination for Patrick Schwarzenegger’s buzzed-about portrayal of the emotionally volatile Saxon, despite the show’s strong overall showing. As the Emmy race heats up, these snubs serve as a reminder that even the biggest names can’t take a nomination for granted.
