The Hindi film industry has long yearned for stories with heart, honesty, and meaning—films that go beyond gloss and gimmicks. And once again, Aamir Khan might just deliver exactly that. With the trailer of Sitaare Zameen Par dropping recently, the actor appears to return to familiar, much-missed terrain: stories that uplift, resonate, and stay with you. Amidst a flurry of stylised romances and mass entertainers, this one stands out for its sincerity.
After a three-year hiatus following Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), Aamir Khan returns to the big screen as Gulshan—a fallen basketball coach grappling with legal troubles and a crumbling career. As part of his court-ordered redemption, he’s handed the responsibility of coaching a group of children with intellectual disabilities for a national tournament. Initially frustrated and out of place, Gulshan embarks on a journey of personal growth and transformation as he slowly connects with his new team.
Here’s what we loved about the trailer—and what to expect from the film
What immediately stands out is the film’s authenticity and representation. Rather than casting mainstream actors, the makers have chosen to work with differently-abled children, bringing both dignity and realism to the screen. It’s a sincere move, especially when dealing with a theme as delicate as inclusion, and reflects a strong sense of responsibility from the team. The trailer introduces us to ten promising newcomers—Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar—each bringing warmth and individuality to the screen.
This commitment to heart and truth is something Aamir Khan has long been known for. Be it Taare Zameen Par or 3 Idiots, his films have always struck a chord with families, especially children and parents. With Sitaare Zameen Par—a sequel of sorts to the 2007 classic—it seems he’s once again found a narrative that blends emotional depth with social relevance.
Khan’s character, Gulshan, mirrors society—initially unable to see the children beyond their labels: impatient, even dismissive. But as the story unfolds, he begins to see them for who they truly are—passionate, capable, and deeply human. That gradual shift is both poignant and powerful, echoing the film’s tagline: “Sabka Apna Apna Normal.”
Directed by R.S. Prasanna—best known for the heartwarming Shubh Mangal Saavdhan—and produced under the Aamir Khan Productions banner, the film is supported by a strong musical backbone from Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Genelia Deshmukh plays Aamir’s love interest, adding a gentle romantic arc to the otherwise emotional narrative.
In a world where difference is often misunderstood or ignored, Sitaare Zameen Par reminds us of something simple yet profound—that inclusion begins with empathy. Set to release on June 20, 2025, this is one story that just might light up the screen—and your heart.
