Opting for fair-trade, eco-friendly and sustainable fashion is not as difficult as it is often cracked up to be. It is all about making choices that will help your environment as well as make life quite simpler for you. With global pollution levels increasing every year, opting for a more minimalistic and sustainable life is the need of the hour.
Actor Varun Dhawan agrees. He says, "At the moment, I think the most important thing one can do to give back to the community is to wear a mask when out in public areas and when around people. The second is not to litter and to try and keep the environment clean. And the third is to give your stuff for recycling. These are just some of the ways you can probably contribute to society without being too preachy."
The Street Dancer actor has found some simple ways to make minimalism work for him. The key, he says, is to adopt eco-friendly habits as a way of life.
Varun says, "Sustainability is a lifestyle choice, and everybody should move towards these changes. My idea of sustainable fashion is to use products that are organic and generate minimal wastage."
If living a minimalistic, organic life sounds easier than being done, you can take a page from the actor's book. Here are a few changes that he adapted to be more eco-friendly and recommends others give a try too:
• Read more about sustainability.
• While buying, check for fibres that are organic in nature as they are biodegradable.
• Donate clothes you no longer love to the needy.
• Invest in clothes that are not seasonal and can be used for the whole year.
• Repair your clothes that have minimal damage instead of discarding them. So, if you rip an outfit, do not use it as an excuse to buy something new, but rather fix it or pay for a professional to fix it.
