Kirsty Bridges, a 28-year-old from Tredegar, South Wales, had been in the hospital for more than a year because of her cystic fibrosis when doctors told her even if she had a lung transplant, her quality of life would be the same, the Daily Mail reports. On December 15, Bridges decided to stop all treatment and let herself die. She explained her decision in the above Facebook post.

Bridges confirmed what her doctors had told her about not being able to live healthily even if she were to get a new set of lungs and wrote that instead of waiting longer on the transplant list, she "decided to go be an angel and watch over my beautiful loved ones instead." She concluded her note with "bye everyone xxxxxxx."

Hundreds of people commented asking Bridges to reconsider her decision, insisting she could fight through it, but she'd made up her mind. According to the Daily Mail, Bridges stopped all treatment just hours after posting the message. She died in the hospital surrounded by family.

Bridges's mother Jacqueline Jones told the Daily Mail her daughter had been suffering from CF since she was a baby. "She made it to 28 years old. But I've been waiting to bury her since she was just three months old. I'm so grateful for the time we had," she said, adding that once her daughter decided to die, "She told me: 'Mum, I'm done. Get the doctor, I want it to be over. I want it to be quick.'"

Since the post, the Bridges family has been updating people about funeral arrangements via her Facebook page. On December 24 they wrote everyone's support has "really has been a great source of comfort to us all."
