Mom Defends Her Son After Someone Made Fun of His Heart Socks

After overhearing a couple of people mocking and laughing at her son for wearing socks with hearts on them, Shona Campbell defended her 3-year-old son for his choice in a Facebook post that's been shared more than 85,000 times in less than a week.

As Campbell writes, a kid at the nursery started laughing at Campbell's son's socks "for being GIRLS socks," and instead of telling her kid to stop, the mom joined in, which Campbell said "absolutely tore apart [her] faith in this world." It's definitely sad and disappointing to think of this happening just because a 3-year-old kid decided he wanted to wear some colorful socks that day.

But instead of lashing out at the other mom, Campbell defended her son really well, and made a great point about letting kids do what they want and not making them stick within the societal confines of what is and is not gender-appropriate. "Why should we teach our children that certain things are for girls/boys??" Campbell writes. "If my son wants to wear a dress, he can!! If he wants to wear a big fluffy hat, he can!! And if he wants to wear socks with love hearts, HE CAN!!"

To further defend Campbell's son, those socks are truly great. And they absolutely match his outfit. So there's something to be said for his ability to color-coordinate, which is something a lot of grown adults can't even manage.
