16 Day Date Ideas for When You're Tired of Netflix and Chillin'

A table for two… again? I mean, not to low-key hate on brunch dates because, believe me, I stan some good avocado toast, but sometimes the eggs and mimosas just aren't enough. Every once in a while, you want to take your S.O.'s hand and do something a leetle more exciting together than a hangover breakfast the day after a wild night of boozin' on the couch, am I right?

Now, I know, I know: It's so cold outside. But it’s time to seize the day with your lover and plan one (or a few) of these 16 adorable day dates, despite the temps. After all, your romance is worth so much more than leftover take-out on the couch and re-watching Love Actually for the 150th time this week.

1. Spend the day at a winery

Whether you're both wine gurus or you just want to try something new, it's always fun to escape to the country together for a day of vino tasting and basking in a winery's rustic atmosphere. Take a tour, sample delish alc, and definitely spring for the cheese platter. Plus, it's a great excuse to break out your most fashionable brimmed hat.

2. Read books at a coffee shop

Picture this: You and bae, curled up in plush chairs next to each other at your favorite café with a book in one hand and a cappuccino in the other. No talking—just reading and enjoying each other's company. Is there anything more romantic and relaxing? We think not.

3. Get artsy at a BYOB craft class

We've all already done a wine-and-paint night (then thrown out the "evidence" after). Luckily, there are lots of other crafty classes out there that let your creative (and grape) juices freely flow, and are even more perfect for date night. Think: Wine and candle-making, writing prompts, beading, pottery, glass-blowing… but most importantly, wine.

4. Go thrifting or antiquing

You seriously never know what you may find in the delightfully unorganized chaos of secondhand shops—and that's half the fun. Make it a game to see who can find the coolest, most unique trinket for the best price, then buy it as a souvenir to remember the day together.

5. Get your sweat on

Couples who sweat together, stay together. Sign up for a fitness class and be each other's workout buddies. You can partner up in boxing, or place your mats next to each other in hot yoga (and checkout their tight tush during downward dog). Then afterwards, keep the fun going and take it to the showers…

6. Have a couple’s photoshoot

A recipe for a #basic afternoon: Grab your S.O., your iPhone, a tripod, and strike some cute AF poses in a self-directed photoshoot. For an insta-worthy scene, think coordinating winter scarves, hand-holding, and snowy backdrops. Even if you don't want to post the pics and be "That couple" on social media, you can still frame a few for yourself and be happy you have them.

7. Get a dose of culture at the museum

Wandering around a museum together is a great daytime (and indoor) activity that's both fun and interesting. However, don't pressure each other to see an entire museum—it's more enjoyable to choose a few exhibits that interest you both. Walk around those at your own pace, take it all in, and discuss as you go (or wait to chat later over a cocktail).

8. Go ice skating or sledding

Instead of complaining about how cold the winter is, make the most of all the nostalgic pastimes the season has to offer. Bundle up with bae and go sledding down your town's big hill with all the kids, or lace up your skates and grab their hand at a local ice rink (don't lie, you totally dreamed of skating around with someone in seventh grade). Afterwards, head inside to warm up with hot chocolate for two.

9. Walk around your local market

From festive holiday markets to local farmers markets, these are the perfect settings for daytime dates. You can meander around hand-in-hand with no real agenda, sampling tons of delicious treats, trying fresh vegetables you've never heard of, buying handmade gifts, and supporting local businesses.

10. Make it a spa day

Treat yourselves to a relaxing afternoon at the spa, complete with a couple's massage, plush robes, champagne, the works. To save a few bucks, scope out a great deal on Groupon or LivingSocial for treatments at a spa in your 'hood.

11. Catch a flick at a drive-in theater

If you can find one of the last remaining drive-in theaters, it's a great way to up the ante on catching the matinee. Bring your own snacks and make out in the front seat like teenagers (we won't tell). Bonus points if your boyfriend has a pickup truck you can back up to the screen, then fill the bed with blankets and pillows to cuddle up in while you watch the movie.

12. Go indoor rock climbing

Take your next day date to new heights at an indoor climbing wall, where you'll get a workout in, but won't have to worry about snow on boulders. Think of this activity as an extreme (harnessed) trust fall.

13. Make s'mores at home

Why venture out in the cold when you can curl up with your boo by an indoor campfire and make s'mores, all without leaving your apartment? Get an afternoon flame going in your fireplace, put on big fuzzy socks, stock up on all the necessities for your fave childhood dessert (you can even get creative and add fun ingredients like banana slices, whipped cream, or peanut butter) and have yourselves a melt-worthy dessert date before dinner.

14. Take a cooking class

Whether you're looking to learn kitchen basics, or further hone your culinary prowess, taking a cooking lesson together is a great bonding experience—plus, you get to enjoy the delicious fruits of your labors at the end. For an extra romantic vibe, splurge on a private class for two.

15. Go on a food tour

Love food but don’t want to do the work of making the empanada dough yourselves? Many cities offer walking food tours that showcase that place's unique culture and authentic flavors. It's a great way to get a new "taste" of where you live—and far more fun than sitting down at your go-to restaurant (again).

16. Take a hike

An outdoor adventure with your love is a breath of fresh air. Take advantage of a beautiful day and hit the trails—just don't forget water, healthy snacks, and a picnic lunch if you're making a full day out of it. If there is still snow on the ground, strap on those snowshoes.

17. Plan your next getaway

Winter blues hitting you both hard? Dream of warmer days ahead… then make 'em a reality by planning your next couple's vacation. Whether that itinerary involves a snorkeling in Hawaii or a wine tour in Spain, booking a trip gives you both something to look forward to together (and a reason to order ALL of the sundresses).
