Sex on the beach? Here’s how to make it hot, not gritty

Sex on the beach? For some, it’s a cocktail—fruity, flirty, and just a little bit naughty. But for many, it’s also a fantasy: toes in the sand, bodies slick with salt and sunscreen, and a libido in overdrive. Maybe it’s so hot because everyone’s basically half-naked, paired with that vacation-mode energy whispering, “Why the hell not?” Either way, beach sex is one of those fantasies that’s hotter than a bonfire at midnight—but without a little prep, it can quickly go from steamy to sandy disaster.

Here’s your no-holds-barred guide to doing the deed seaside—and doing it right.

Getting the location right

Picking a spot for having sex on the beach is akin to looking for a secret lovers’ hideout. Avoid public beaches, as you don’t want people around you when you’re trying to make your own kind of waves.  What you’re looking for is a spot that’s private, quiet, and a little daring. Hidden coves, deserted dunes, or that shoreline that only locals know about are places to go (jackpot if you’ve got access to a private beach).

The right time to do it

Sure, a midday romp under the blazing sun sounds spicy in theory. But in practice, it’s a sweaty, sticky mess—and not the fun kind. Sunset is your sexy sweet spot. The light’s good, the beach clears out, and everything feels just a little more magical. Nighttime works too—especially if you're into a little moonlit mischief.

Take the sand into account

Down there, the sand isn’t your friend. Do the smart thing and lay down a towel or blanket. This isn’t just about comfort—you now have a barrier between your private parts and the sand. Plus, it makes your session feel a bit more planned. If possible, bring a change of clothes too. The last thing you want to do (after the fun’s over) is get back into damp, sand-filled clothes.

Positions to try out

Not every move from the bedroom translates to the beach. The key? Keep it low, keep it clever, and keep as much of your body off the ground as possible. Spooning while lying down is a great option. It’s cosy, discreet, and keeps you both mostly sand-free (plus, it’s perfect for talking dirty). If you're leaning against a rock or nestled into a dune, try a seated straddle—one partner on top, facing the other—so you can lock eyes, set the pace, and stay off the ground. For those feeling bold, standing doggy-style against a sturdy rock or tree gives you leverage, intensity, and just enough thrill to feel naughty.

What to do after the act

The most important thing to do? Leave no trace. Pick up your stuff, toss the trash, and maybe take one last photo to remember the moment. Once you’ve rocked each other’s world, rinse off if there’s a shower nearby, and do a quick sand check while you wipe yourself down.

So be bold, be safe, and be smart. Respect the beach, respect your body, and don’t forget to reapply that sunscreen.
