The lockdown has inspired many great DIY beauty projects and the flaxseed gel is one of them.
You may have often seen videos of people boiling flaxseeds and draining the mix to create an easy-peasy hair gel. While this natural hair gel is touted for having a decent hold, it is also a great ingredient if you are suffering from hair loss. Dr BL Jangid, dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon, SkinQure Clinic, agrees.
He says, "There are several factors that can be attributed to hair loss, the most common one being stress, deficiency of iron or anaemia. Apart from having a nutrient-rich diet and trying out de-stressing activities, you can also include flaxseeds in your haircare. Flaxseeds are highly rich in omega-3 fatty acids and proteins which can provide the oomph and the extra volume you need for your hair."
Dr Jangid shares how to upgrade the viral flaxseed recipe to create a DIY mask that can also address your hair loss issues and give you glossy, longer hair:
Soak some flaxseeds in the water overnight. Then add it in a pot with two cups of water and boil. Keep stirring, and once the mixture thickens, squeeze half a lemon into it. Let it cool. For added nourishment, add a few drops of the essential oil such as Cedarwood, Rosemary or Ylang Ylang. Once cooled, strain the sticky mix through a muslin cloth to separate the gel from the flaxseeds. Apply the gooey mix on your hair and leave it on overnight or for 45 minutes at least. Shampoo and condition as usual.
