The fashion world has been buzzing with surprising collaborations, major exits, and iconic debuts. From AMIRI bringing its West Coast charm to New Delhi, to Suzy Bae stepping in as Celine’s newest global ambassador, and Peter Do bidding farewell to Helmut Lang, it’s been a whirlwind of news. Add Charli XCX’s edgy campaign with Acne Studios, SKIMS x Dolce & Gabbana’s bold new collection, and Sonam Kapoor’s appointment as Dior’s latest muse, and you’ve got all the highlights from this season’s fashion drama! Take a look below.
We did not see this coming
Mike Amiri’s eponymous label has brought the West Coast to New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri—yes, really! The Los Angeles-based luxury brand AMIRI has launched its first-ever retail store in India. With celebrities like Shanaya Kapoor, Shubman Gill, and Anand Ahuja in attendance, the opening was all things Hollywood—we also got a glimpse of their Pre-Fall and AW’24 collections. Ahem, run, don’t walk, to The Chanakya.
From one idol to another
After Blackpink’s Lisa Manoban’s rather unusual departure from the French luxury fashion label Celine as its global brand ambassador, the 27-year-old singer and actor has been replaced by another K-pop idol. Suzy Bae of the K-pop group Miss A has filled in the very big shoes left by Manoban. In a statement, Bae shared, “I am thrilled to join the Maison Celine as a global ambassador, a brand that is loved for its designs, embracing multiple generations while embodying the house’s long-standing heritage.” The South Korean star has joined other high-profile Celine global ambassadors, including BTS‘s V, actor Park Bo-gum, and NewJeans‘ Danielle.
Exit stage left
Peter Do who joined Helmut Lang’s namesake brand as its creative director in 2023 has officially ‘left the building’. In a statement, the brand’s chairman Kazumi Yanai mentioned: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Peter for his exceptional creative leadership and vision and wish him continued success in his future endeavours.” After four collections and reinforcing the brand’s reputation for pushing boundaries while honouring its minimalist roots, Do’s year-and-a-half long stint has come to an end. But the show won’t stop as the designer and creative director will now be spending more time working on his own label!
She’s everywhere, she’s so Julia
Charli XCX is now the face of the Sweden-based fashion label Acne Studios, and TBH, it was about time. The 360 singer’s been a long time fan of the brand—wearing it on tour and while creating her album Brat. “I’ve been wearing Acne Studios forever in my personal life and the brand has become a really important part of this album, too,” Charli said. The collaboration also coincides with the Swedish label’s Acne People programme, expanding into the music space. Charli’s campaign with Acne Studios follows the brand’s partnership with Spotify announced last June.
Can we afford it? No. Will we still be buying it? Yes!
The leopard print is alive and well even this late in the year thanks to SKIMS and Dolce & Gabbana’s latest collaboration. Picture this: The Italian label’s signature dolce vita vibes meet SKIMS’ sculpting silhouettes to create a collection that screams “buy me RN!” (RIP our bank accounts). “We’ve taken classic Dolce & Gabbana silhouettes and leopard prints and reimagined them with the incredible fit and comfort that Skims is known for,” spilled Kim Kardashian in a press release for the collection. “This is a truly iconic partnership that I’m so excited to share with the world.”
A match made in Aisha-verse
In a surprise to absolutely no one, the French couture house Dior has crowned Sonam Kapoor as its newest brand ambassador. Many say that it reflects the label’s ambitions of expansion in the rapidly growing Indian market. But not for nothing, this feels completely fitting for those of us who have been following the actress and her relationship with the brand closely. Dior’s official statement read: “A multi-talented personality, the actress, producer and fashion icon henceforth embodies the audacity, grace and elegance of Dior style, a femininity constantly reinvented.” In other words, this power pairing was simply meant to be!
