As the music streaming service celebrates 20 years, its global data spotlights listening trends but sidelines Indian artists.

Spotify's Wrapped list is one of the top calling cards for citizens of the internet, one that carries massive social media momentum at the end of every year since 2016. What started as a simple roundup of the year in music has now become a study in data collection and interpretation in the age of AI. To add fuel to that burning fire, the music streaming app has now released Most Streamed of All Time lists. This now includes the Most Streamed Artists of All Time, Most Streamed Albums of All Time, Most Streamed Songs of All Time, Most Streamed Podcasts of All Time, and Most Streamed Audiobooks in Premium of All Time (don't miss the little encouragement for you to buy the premium subscription). And, no points for guessing, the unrivalled queen of the streaming platform is Taylor Swift!

Following Swift to round off the top five are Bad Bunny, Drake, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande.

Swift has topped the Most Streamed Artist chart, and her albums, Lover and Midnights, feature on the Most Streamed Albums list. Make this make sense. How does she miss out on being featured on the Most Streamed Songs chart when we have seen multiple versions of her songs being released at regular intervals (or when some other artists reach closer to the top)?

While names like Arijit Singh and Pritam were left out (India's crown jewels on Spotify Wrapped), we couldn't help but notice how there's little artist representation from outside the US. There's Drake, also the most-streamed rapper on Spotify, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber from Canada (we are separating the Great White North from the US because of the current Trump-against-the-world scenario). There's Ed Sheeran, who also has two songs: Shape of You and Perfect, on the most-streamed songs list, and Coldplay representing the UK. BTS representing South Korea, Rihanna representing Barbados, and J Balvin representing Colombia.

So where are the Indian artists? Maybe Indian fans need to move from T-Series' YouTube channel to Spotify? Or T-Series could simply release a chart of their own so the desi diaspora can find some representation.

Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti leads Most Streamed Albums, followed by The Weeknd's Starboy and After Hours, Ed Sheeran's ÷ Deluxe edition, and Olivia Rodrigo's SOUR. Top-streamed songs include Blinding Lights, Shape of You, Sweater Weather, Starboy, and As It Was. Coldplay's Yellow is the chart's oldest entry.

Outside of music, The Joe Rogan Experience leads Most Streamed Podcasts, while Sarah J Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses tops Most Streamed Premium Audiobooks. The data reflects global Spotify streams as of April 2026.
