On Sunday, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari announced their engagement on social media after four years of dating. The couple was first linked after meeting on the set of Spears' 'Slumber Party' music video in 2016. Flaunting her engraved diamond ring, Britney posted a video on Instagram and wrote, I can’t f**king believe it ??????❣️!!!!!!" Celebrities including Paris Hilton congratulated the couple.
The news of the engagement comes days after Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, filed to end the conservatorship that controlled her life for over 13 years. Sam Asghari also took to Instagram to share the news, with a photograph of Britney Spears' ring in focus. In an additional statement to People, Asghari's manager Brandon Cohen revealed, "The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them. He (Sam Asghari) is proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement."
Brandon also mentioned that Spears' ring was designed by N.Y.C. jeweller Roman Malayev. "He couldn't be happier to be involved and make this one-of-a-kind ring." The band of the four-carat diamond ring is engraved with the word 'lioness', Asghari's nickname for her. In June, the singer told a judge that she wanted to marry Asghari and have a baby with him, during an impassioned plea to end the conservatorship.
"Sam has been Britney's rock for years. He makes sure that she eats well and works out. She leans on him for everything. He works and has his own life too, but is around as much as he can," a source told People. A friend of the couple added, "He's ready for marriage and kids with Britney and is serious about the relationship. She wants to take that next step and have that full life with him. As a couple, they've hidden how they've really felt even from people close to them because they were anxious and scared, but now it's all out there."
Previously, Britney was married to Kevin Federline, with whom she has two sons, Jayden and Sean. She was also briefly married to her childhood friend, Jason Alexander, in 2004.
