As Coronavirus scare scales up with the number of cases increasing every day in India, the number of WhatsApp forwards and FB posts on do’s and don’ts has proportionally gone up too. The scariest part…not all of them are verified.

So how do you traverse this minefield of information? We have help handy. Lovneet Batra, clinical nutritionist and founder of Nutrition by Lovneet recommends a diet that will help you amp up your immunity. A strong immunity, as you know is the first defense against any kind of viruses.

Indian Gooseberry: Clinical trials in Wuhan province of China on infected individuals showed that overdosing on Vitamin C through IVF drips did give promising results. Batra suggests Indian Gooseberry as a rich source of Vitamin C that can be eaten in the morning on empty stomach. “Eat two fresh amla instead of preserved juices,” she says.

Ginger: COVID-19 virus induces respiratory symptoms, hence it’s crucial to strengthen the respiratory system. Batra recommends, gulping down 5ml of ginger juice everyday to keep respiratory illness at bay.

Star Anise: The spice contains thymol, terpineol and anethole that are used in treating cough and flu. It’s an anti-viral that needs to be included in your diet.  “Boil the spice in a glass of water and drink the water every day,” says Batra. 

Turmeric, black pepper and coconut oil: Crushed black pepper corns mixed in raw turmeric and coconut oil keeps inflammation in check an is thereby recommended. “No or low information helps you fight viral infections better,” informs Batra.
