We’ve all seen it—manifestation trends are flooding social media, promising to unlock abundance if you just follow the right steps. Writing numbers in a specific ink on your hand, journaling on yellow paper, scripting under the full moon, whispering affirmations into a glass of water, or burning bay leaves with your desires written on them—these rituals can be powerful tools to focus your intentions, but what happens when they become an obsession?
When you treat manifestation like a strict formula, it’s easy to get lost in the process. Instead of feeling empowered, you might find yourself constantly searching for signs, overanalysing every thought, and wondering why things aren’t happening fast enough. What’s meant to bring ease and flow can turn into pressure and frustration instead.
The anxiety of ‘doing it right’
There’s a big difference between trusting the process and trying to control every little detail. Manifestation is supposed to be about belief—trusting yourself, the universe, and the natural timing of things. But when you’re stressing over whether you’re “doing it right,” that trust disappears. Instead of feeling aligned, you feel desperate. Instead of believing in abundance, you focus on what’s missing.
Dr Meenakshi Jain, counsellor and mind training coach, explains, “When the desire to achieve turns into obsession, it can lead to burnout and self-doubt. True manifestation starts with self-belief, not stress over timelines and outcomes.”
The pressure to manifest the “perfect” life can make you feel like you’re constantly failing. You might start blaming yourself for delays—was it because you doubted for five minutes? Forgot to script last night? Is Mercury retrograde messing up your vision board? Suddenly, you’re switching techniques, scripting obsessively, and making yet another manifestation video, convinced that something must be missing. And when things don’t happen on schedule, the frustration hits hard.
Trust the process, not the rituals
It’s okay to set intentions and let them go, knowing that what’s meant for you will unfold when it’s supposed to. True manifestation isn’t about controlling every detail; it’s about being in tune with yourself and your path.
So, the next time you feel the urge to do yet another ritual just to “make sure” your desires come true, pause and ask yourself: Am I manifesting, or am I just chasing?
