Facebook is Finally Getting Rid of One of Its Most Annoying Features

Chances are you're one of the many people who has been frustrated with Facebook's dreaded "other" folder. Up until now, if someone tried to contact you but wasn't already friends with you on Facebook, the message would automatically be filtered into the elusive "other" folder. What made things worse was that this folder could only be accessed on a computer or laptop, and seeing as how most folks browse Facebook on their phones, the feature didn't make a lot of sense.

But now Facebook has done away with the "other" folder, meaning users can search for people, send them a message, and the receiver will then be prompted to either accept or ignore the message request. Don't worry, the sender won't know if you read the message or not, so your privacy isn't compromised.

As for messages sent by Facebook friends and phone contacts (if the social networking site is synced with your phone), they will be sent directly to your inbox. Spam will continue to be "ruthlessly combated," as well, according to Time.

"We truly want to make Messenger the place where you can find and privately connect with anyone you need to reach, but only be reached by the people you want to communicate with," the vice president of messaging products David Marcus posted on Facebook. "Now, the only thing you need to talk to virtually anyone in the world, is their name."
