7 Shows to Stream Now That ‘Game of Thrones’ Is RIP

Eight long years after it all began, Game of Thrones is finally over (we’re not crying, you’re crying!). Dany is dead, Bran is king, and Ghost finally got his pets. And now we’re left out here wondering what exactly we’re going to do with the rest of our lives. While no show will ever really live up to the magic (and budget) that was Game of Thrones, there are plenty of high-quality runners-up that can start to fill the dragon-shaped holes in our hearts.

Peaky Blinders

If you still need a steady dose of drama, British accents, and incredibly gory murders, then Peaky Blinders should be your next move. The show, set in 1919, follows the Shelby crime family and their gang—the Peaky Blinders—as they try to extend their control beyond the city of Birmingham. And just like Dany and Co., they soon learn what can happen when empires become too big and corrupt to handle.

Rome

Another amazing HBO production, Rome got cut way too short, only having two seasons. Like Game of Thrones, the show follows a wide cast of characters, but many of these are actually based on real people from ancient Rome. It focuses on the lives of both the leaders and the laymen during the problematic (to say the least) transition from Roman republic to autocratic empire. And yes, there’s plenty of nudity.

The Tudors

For all the Margaery Tyrell stans, The Tudors is about as close as you’re gonna get to watching some bonus Margaery content. Natalie Dormer plays the equally charming yet conniving Anne Boleyn during the reign of King Henry VIII. And if you thought she was manipulative with Joffrey and Tommen, just wait until you see how she plays the King of England.

Frontier

Khal Drogo may have died, but he popped right back up in Frontier. In the Canadian period drama, dreamboat Jason Momoa plays a part-Cree, part-Irish outlaw named Declan Harp who is trying to disrupt the monopoly that the Hudson Bay Company has on fur trade industry. And not straying too far from his classic Drogo style, he tries to do it with lots and lots of violence.

The Borgias

If you were into the Church of the Seven’s rise to power in Westeros, then The Borgias is right up your alley. You get to watch the creation of the Borgia dynasty as Rodrigo Borgia ascends within the church to become Pope Alexander VI. There’s no shortage of war, murder, alliances, and bribery as he tries to lead all of Italy.

Empire

The characters in Empire might not be vying for a throne, but they are vying for control of a hip-hop record label, and man, is there a whole lot of drama, backstabbing, and murder involved. You get to see some of Taraji P. Henson’s best work, and the soundtrack, produced by Timbaland, is a welcomed break from all those intense lyric-free ballads in Go.

Narcos

If you liked GoT because of the violence and knowing that a lead character could be sent to the seven heavens at any moment, then you’ll really love Narcos. The drama of warring cartels might be on a bit of a smaller scale than kingdoms waging war, but it’s just as addicting.
