In case you missed it, Stephen Kalyn and Mika Abdalla were just confirmed (by yours truly!) to be leading Off Campus season 2. The duo, who are bringing Dean and Allie to the small screen in the new Prime Video adaptation of the Elle Kennedy series, are taking over in a surprise move that brings book three to life in the show’s second season. While we got to chat with Mika and Stephen before the series broke out in anticipation of the big announcement, we also caught up with them after the series came out to find out how they’re feeling now that the series is out and their expectations for season 2.
Stephen Kalyn: It’s unbelievable. I’m so happy people are receiving this in a positive way! While making the show, I felt confident in our scripts and our team that we could make a great show but I didn’t expect this type of reaction
Mika Abdalla: The reaction from fans has been so overwhelmingly incredible to see. We were all so proud of the show we did but always had it in the back of our minds that so much of that stemmed from our love for each other and the experience. To have that validated by people who weren’t a part of the production is indescribable.
Stephen Kalyn: Definitely the J.Lo scene….I did not expect it to get that much hype. On the day, I felt that it was going to come out good, but it ended up becoming this thing that fans and audience members really felt connected to and that makes me so happy.
Mika Abdalla: I mean the J.Lo dance scene reaction was soooo unexpected. It was, of course, an iconic dress and a fun teaser for what was to come with Dean and Allie, but it kind of became an insane internet moment that we didn’t see coming. Also having J.Lo react to the moment was INSANE. Thanks J.Lo!
Stephen Kalyn: I’d probably just say the fans of the books. They all expected our series to fall in order of the books, so when I got the part and they told me Dean and Allie would be season 2, I just couldn’t wait for fans to be surprised by what was to come.
Mika Abdalla: Allie will always have her fun chaotic personality, but we’ll get to see more of how that fire covers something personal that Allie doesn’t usually talk about. I’m so excited to play with that balance.
Stephen Kalyn: Things are going to be very interesting, and fans will be gripping their seats for what’s to come.
