Manipur has the World's Only Floating National Park And It's Absolutely Stunning

Imagine a place where you are standing on a piece of land which is actually floating on water...

No, we're not talking about a set from a James Cameron movie, there's a legit national park in India that floats on water.

One of its kind in the entire world, Keibul Lamjao National Park in Manipur is simply a surreal place. The circular phumdis (floating decomposed plant materials) are actually responsible for the floating of the land and form 2/3rd to 3/4th of the entire national park. Situated at a distance of around 53 km from Imphal, this place is spread over 40 sq. kms and the iconic Loktak Lake forms a major part of it.  ​

This park boasts of a unique amalgamation of aquatic, wetland and terrestrial ecosystems and is home of rare species such as sangai deer, golden cat hog deer, wild boar, large Indian civet etc. Further, the park offers the bird watchers an amazing opportunity to spot the prominent species including black kite, northern hill myna, spotbill duck, blue-winged teal, threatened hooded crane, Indian white-breasted waterhern and the list goes on...   

The best time to visit this park is from January to April.
