The Terrifying Reason You Should Be Really Careful About Checking In on Instagram

If you weren't already terrified of creeps on social media, now you have a new reason to be wary. A 44-year-old California man named Arturo Galvan was arrested last week after police say he used GPS coordinates from geotagged photos he found on Instagram and Facebook to find female college students, break into their homes, and steal their underwear, PetaPixel reports.

Fullerton Police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel says Galvan found his victims by hanging out in public places and searching for social media posts where people "checked in" near where he was, which gave him clues as to their location.

The Fullerton Police Department says they believe Galvan broke into the homes of at least six women while they were still inside(!!), and stole their bras, underwear, and some other random valuables he felt like stealing. Oh, and it gets even weirder because Hamel says Galvan also stole underwear from their male roommates as well.

Police later found all the missing panties in a garage next to Galvan's house, alongside a huge pile of electronics.

Galvan was able to post his bail of INR 1, 33,71,000 (aka roughly the price of three bras, TBH), and is facing charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, and peeping and prowling. No word yet on when the court date will be.

The Fullerton PD is warning women to double-check their privacy and location data, since they say that updating your phone can sometimes cause those settings to revert to the phone's default, which could lead to some weirdo stealing the bras and underwear that were not freaking cheap.
