Kamala Harris Pledges US Aid to India and Suspension of Vaccine Patents

Speaking of her Indian roots, US Vice President Kamala Harris pledged to aid India in its hour of need facing the second Covid-19 wave. Kamala delivered a powerful speech on the issue at an online event organised by the US state department. 

"The welfare of India is critically important to the United States," she states. "The surge of Covid-19 deaths in India is nothing short of heartbreaking."

" We have announced our full support for suspending patents on Covid-19 vaccines to help India and other nations vaccinate their people more quickly," added Kamala, elaborating the extent of US efforts to support the Indian crisis and pledging their intent to do more.

The United States has also lifted the export ban on the essential raw materials required by the vaccine manufacturers in India, which was in place till a few weeks ago. This development comes after a telephonic conversation between National security advisor Ajit Doval and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan.
