From fighting frizz to getting sleek, poker-straight hair or the gorgeous curls, hair treatments have a host of benefits. However, there is also rampant misinformation about what exactly can these treatments actually do for you!

Celebrity dermatologist and wellness expert Dr Kiran Sethi of Isya Aesthetics agrees. She says, "There are many myths when it comes to hair care such as hair oiling when you have oily dandruff! Even though oiling is a good practice, it may worsen the situation when you already are suffering from dandruff."

So, here are her pick of hair care treatment myths that you should take note of:

MYTH: Keratin treatments help prevent hair fall.

FACT: "Keratin treatments are really popular but they do not help in any way when it comes to hair loss. In fact, they may even cause hair fall because they break the hair bonds causing the hair to restructure itself much weaker."

MYTH: Perms don't harm your hair.

FACT: "This is a common misconception mostly because the damage is usually clearly visible in curly hair as opposed to straight. Perms are very damaging for the hair and may even cause excessive hairfall."

MYTH: You have to do a hairspa regularly for good hair

FACT: "Hairspas can help but only superficially. Good, healthy hair needs proper regular care and regular hair spa will not cure your targeted problems such as hair fall or dandruff. You need to address those by an expert."

MYTH: The more you shampoo, the better is your hair health.

FACT: "Our scalp is self-regulating - the more you shampoo, the more oil it will create. It will cause more breakage and hair fall. You should't be shampooing your hair more than 1-2 times a week."

MYTH: Dry shampoo is good for you.

FACT: "Dry shampoo is a saviour when you are in a rush but do not make a habit out of using it. Overusing it can cause boils in the scalp. Instead, rinse your hair with water or use apple cider vinegar as a scalp astringent and then wash with water."
